About Sunray Image

Sunray Image is an independently run informational website about digital images, video formats and practical photography.

We write for people who want to understand what is happening between the lens and the file: how sensors record light, how pixels are arranged and compressed, how formats are converted, and how to make better photographs with the equipment you already own.

The site is purely editorial. We do not sell, distribute or support software, and we are not the successor to, or affiliated with, any former software company — including the developer of YUVTools. Our YUVTools page is a reference guide, not a product page.

Editorial principles

  • Original work

Every article and image on this site is created for Sunray Image. We do not republish archived material from other sites.

  • Explain, don't mystify

Technical terms are defined where they appear, and formulas come with worked numbers.

  • Honest about limits

Where a topic depends on specific hardware or software versions, we say so rather than overgeneralise.
